ELGIN
 
Elgin (S.29;T.22N R. E) - Elgin is a community on the west shore of Carr Inlet near the mouth of Minter Creek in northwest Pierce County. A post office was established a mile south of this place in 1882 and was named Minter for the first postmaster. When it was moved a mile north (Kitsap Co.), the name was changed by a family of settlers from Elgin, Illinois. (Copyright © The Tacoma Public Library -- 1998 -)-
 
Wash. Census 1900 KitsapCo. Glenwood Dist. stated immigration date 1889 and birth of William in Wisconsin.William was born while enroute to Wash. Territory to join relatives Albert and Henrietta Kampin who arrived in 1885. Unknown if Bertha was a Kampin or Henrietta was a Hahn.Census also states 7 children born to Bertha and 7 living in 1900, apparently 1 child remained in Germany.


Wash. census 1910 kitsap co. Glenwood Dist.Glenwood (S 4 T 22 N R 1 E) - The community of Glenwood in Kitsap County is in the Minter Valley. it was named for a glen in the woods. A school named Glenwood existed "....as the most southern and eastern in the country..." as it borders Pierce County. (Kitsap. p. 4).

Wash. census 1920 saw change of county lines with farm now in Pierce co. Minter District. Census states Albert and Bertha were from Stacten,(or Staeten) Germany.Census states 7 children born of Bertha with 6 living in 1920.Albert died in 1917.Name and gender of child in Germany is unknown.
